I said I was going to write more efficiently. I said I was going to go for simpler photoshoots instead of the elaborate ones I had in my head. And I made good on those things for an ever so brief window of time. But It didn’t take long for me to fall off the wagon.
On June 12 I wrote this post in which I “announced” my next two builds. Keep in mind that at the time, one of them was 100% complete, and the other was maybe 75%.
After 23 days, over a dozen posts, approximately 125 photos, and several video uploads, I finally wrapped them up. That’s a lot of time and a lot of content. Not very efficient at all! This wasn’t just falling off the wagon. It’s like I leapt off while the wagon was at full speed, and tucked and rolled myself into a ditch.
Now, a lot of those dozen-ish posts I wrote were much shorter than usual, so in that way I still exercised some restraint.
But there’s no getting around the fact that I took a lot of photos, and that that took quite a lot of time. But I didn’t mind doing it, even when the fingers were falling off of the GM Sniper II.
Let me amend my goal. It’s not that I need to be strictly efficient. It’s more about making sure I do what makes me happy. In some cases that might mean keeping things short and sweet, and in other cases - when I’m building stuff like the EZ-8 that’s really special to me - it might mean taking my time and going all out.
What Next?
Now we get to my latest (albeit minor) problem. I currently have a case of “Builder ADHD”. I’ve started and stopped building every single one of these kits:
This happens to me a lot. I don’t always talk about it, but it still happens. Though it’s never to quite this extent. I’ve juggled two and even three kits at once, but not four.
Sometimes this happens because I get bored with a build, but more often it’s because I get to a point where I need to paint or detail, and I just don’t have the motivation or time. In this case it’s 100% been a time issue; I like having a nice, dedicated block of time where I can put out a full palette of color and do as much of it as I can in a single pass. That just hasn’t been an option lately.
The Gundam EX is actually fully assembled and standing off to the side, but until it’s detailed it’s nowhere close to finished
For now, I’m going to declare temporary bankruptcy on these unfinished builds. I’ll come back to them later, but for now I’m going to pivot to some other builds that (I think) will require much less detailing work.
I just did a theme of “Ground-type Feddie suits”, and now I’m doing a theme of “Altrons”. Just to be clear, I don’t plan on making it a habit to build around themes like this all the time. It just kind of worked out that way.
