When I finally decided to roll up my sleeves and clear through my Logjam, I had multiple _un_finished builds in process. Now that I’m feeling “free”, and the weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I’d like to try and get back to them:
It’s the Master Grade EZ-8, and the GM Sniper II White Dingo Squad Custom. After having so much success with the Ground Type, they seemed like natural followups.
The Timeline of Events
I wrote the Logjam post on May 20th, and instead of immediately rolling up my sleeves to start clearing up the jam, I started building the EZ-8. While I had technically begun the build on May 6th, the majority of the work was done between May 20th and May 24th.
At that point I had a fully assembled model, and all I had to do was apply the decals. That turned out to be a problem. G-Rework’s EZ-8 decals are nearly identical to the Ground Type’s:
The thought of doing the same damn decals so soon after filled me with the same kind of “I don’t wanna!” energy that a kid has when forced to eat their veggies. Rather than be an adult and sucking it up, I chose instead to start another build. The GM Sniper II fit the bill nicely: it’s similar in structure, and I had already built much of it during a local Build Club meetup back in November. I then got the rest of it done from May 27 through May 30.
That’s when I finally told my inner child to go away for a bit so that I could go back and focus on the Logjam. “Little Me” complied, which explains how I was able to publish a nearly-consecutive string of posts from June 1st through June 10th (only missed June 2nd!)
How it’s Going to Work
I’m not planning on doing full build posts for either model. In-universe, the EZ-8 is a field repaired version of the Ground Type, which means that the real life Gunpla builds are nearly identical. I’ll cover the new bits that interested me, and that should do it.
With the GM Sniper II, I didn’t take a ton of WIP photos, and of the ones I did take, I’m not entirely sure what points or observations I was trying to make, so a lot of those shots are now worthless. Better to just cover the highlights and interesting bits of the build.
This is all probably a good thing for me. I want to keep trying to move away from long, encyclopedic writeups, and these two builds are forcing me into doing exactly that.
Hey Mate, Want Some GUNS?!!?!?!?
It stands to reason that the EZ-8 and the Ground Type share a lot of weapons in common. But it also turns out that the Gm Sniper II (specifically this White Dingo Custom version) also shares a lot of the same weapons, so when they made this Master Grade kit, Bandai tossed them all in the box.
So now, between the three models, I have a crap ton of duplicate weapons. I thought it would be fun to paint them in different color schemes and finishes to try and mix things up:
Some are grey, some are semi gloss black, and some are gunmetal. Are they all going to look good? No idea, but I figure that at least a few of them will.
PS - Some of these weapons are new to me, and I’m still going to talk about them during these next two builds. Just sit tight.
What Next?
As of this moment, the GM Sniper II is finished and ready to be photographed, so I’m actually going to write about it first. Then I’ll go back and wrap up the EZ-8.
