Got some assorted trinkets for the Easter season.
QMSV 5th Anniversary
I’ve already collected one QMSV figure before, and I thought it was pretty great. And now I have two of them!
I guess the QMSV line is five years old now, and since we all love celebrating anniversaries that are divisible by five, here we are with a new line of figures to mark the occasion. In particular, they went out and asked a bunch of different artists to come up with special designs and interpretations of some very popular mobile suits:
Good news - I got one I like, the Nu Gundam! Bad news - it’s not quite as cool in real life as it looks on the box:
I mean, it’s not bad, but it’s just a metallic coating.
It would have been nice if there was a little something more to it, like maybe some different colors or metallic tints on some of the armor.
Gundam Converge
Next up is a Gundam Converge figure:
It’s just a tiny little figure with a large-but-not-quite-SD-sized head. Also, it comes with a little stand!
I gotta say, this looks pretty great, both in terms of its coloring and its surface details:
Sure, it could look even better with some extra panel lining, but I don’t feel like it really needs it. It’s got it where it counts.
I also like that the coloring is a quite bit darker than the High Grade GM Custom:
To be clear, I don’t think either of them is more accurate than the other. The HG version is how it looks in bright light, while the figurine is how it looks in the shade and/or in outer space. I just like that it’s different for the sheer variety of it.
Superior Define
I don’t know what the history or marketing of this product line is all about, but as far as I’m concerned this is roughly equivalent to a Warhammer Mini or something. It’s very small, very detailed, and the entire thing needs to be painted from top to bottom:
Like the QMSV figure, this is a blind bag, and I got the Hygogg. Fine by me.
It assembles mostly like a Gunpla, though often times assembly is nothing more than “insert slot A into tab B”.
Here it is all assembled but unpainted:
It certainly is incredibly detailed for something so small. As for painting, I do plan on trying .. eventually. But right now I just don’t have the right headspace for it.
I don’t see myself making a habit of collecting these kinds of figures and trinkets, but it’s fun to get them as gifts. It’s a nice, low risk way to get a taste of other Gundam merch
